    Description:
    On Friday 28 March at 7.30PM at the Actor's Church, Covent Garden, Eclectic Voices will give the European premiere of Reena Esmail’s Malhaar: A Requiem for Water, alongside two uplifting works for choir and organ, Bright Mass With Canons by Nico Muhly and Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb.
     
    Conducted by Scott Stroman, EV are known for the ambition and stylistic range of their programming. Malhaar features Hindustani singer Lucy Rahman, tabla player Yousuf Ali Khan and percussionist Finn Genockey. Ben Comeau is organist for Muhly and Britten.
     
    A malhar is an Indian raga designed to beckon the rain; Esmail’s A Requiem for Water captures musically the beauty and awe of water while contemplating its loss. Its alluring sound integrates the melodic beauty of Indian music with Western harmonies.

    Malhaar: A Requiem For Water was commissioned by Los Angeles Master Chorale. Hear a snippet of their recording of the piece here:
