We rehearse regularly on Thursdays — and occasionally on Mondays — from 7pm to 9.30pm.
EV performs an eclectic selection of music — hence our name! We have the same respect for every style and piece of music that we perform, and believe that by singing in many styles we improve our understanding and performance of all of them, as well as broadening our knowledge. We expect choir members to take part in all our programmes.In performance we sing some works from memory and others from score, and it is important to appreciate that the rehearsals are not the only time and place we work on the music. Everyone learns at different rates, and each member is expected to do whatever learning or memorising work they need to outside of rehearsals to keep up with the pace of learning.
We provide lots of encouragement and support, including sectional rehearsals, occasional sight-reading sessions, and opportunities for voice coaching. Each voice part has a voice rep who offers further support. When appropriate, audio files and links to relevant sites are provided.
We are looking for singers in all voice parts: please get in touch if you're interested to know more. Everyone in the choir will be friendly and helpful to new members. We have a simple and quick audition process.
Rehearsal costs are covered by members' fees: full rate is £110 per term (three terms per year) and we offer 50% discounts for low income/benefit recipients/students, and free membership for singers up to the age of 25.
Our choir does not normally borrow music scores. This means there will be at-cost charges for photocopies or printed scores arranged through the choir's librarian. Singers can borrow or buy their own scores separately if they wish, of course.
Finally, we are a friendly community that has fun together. Many of us go to the pub for a chat after rehearsals; members frequently organise walks, parties, theatre outings and more.
We take part in charity fundraising concerts and frequent outreach events, bringing live music to the places it might not otherwise reach. Eclectic Voices is an enriching place to be!
