What is a folk carol for choir?
When accepting the BBC Award for Folk Band of the Year, Sean Cooney of The Young ‘Uns said:
“Folk can be translated into one word, and that word is - Welcome”
We don’t want to be prescriptive or get tied up in knots by trying to define a style of music which by its nature is constantly evolving. Eclectic Voices is a choir that welcomes music from all traditions and we'd like to inspire the creation of a new a carol or winter song which will fit into a concert of folk music
We welcome all interpretations of this.
Eclectic Voices has recently committed itself to the regular commissioning of new choral music and in 2018, the choir launched its New Music Fund.
Our first commission – “Hope, Light” by Helen Beauchamp - was successfully premiered in our Christmas concert featuring Eclectic Voices and Carnyx Brass at St Pancras Church, London on Saturday 15th December 2018.
